My friend James Hirst who attends the same university as I do, asked me if we could work together on a collaboration.
As his objective of the year is to work with someone from every course and do some sort of collaborate work.
Our collaboration was based on a brief I had put together last year, titled, 27 Club.
The idea was to do a booklet/poster about the Club, and to put 10 together for the book fair.
We worked on a design that I had started, then James came and told me what he wants doing and we worked on it over a period of days. Messing about with different layout, and then we got the idea that we wanted, then it was just editing it from there really.
Front;
I put this together to show James,
Trying to put something together with number.
5 Members
5 Lives
5 Deaths
27 Years Old.
Felt it could work, but there was just better ideas that could be put together.
I changed the text. Instead of number it was now names of the members in the club,
Cobain
Morrison
Hendrix
Joplin
Jones
With the images being so dark some of the letters and words where harder to read than we would have liked, so we decided to keep the same layout, but just changed the opacity of the images.
I changed the opacity from 100% to 50%,
The image was a lot more lighter, cloudy if you like.
They text was easier to read, but there was something nagging us that we couldn't put out finger on, so we decided to have a break from it for a while and work on the back.
Back;
When starting with the other side of the poster, I struggled a bit,
my initial idea was to try and do some sort of time line for the poster,
but to have 5 time lines, that would have had to have a lot more space,
So we had to work with what we had which was a a2 scale.
I decided to have the names of the members large and have the writing besides them, along with a image which was circled and text wrapping that with how they died and dates.
The initial idea was very plain, I wanted to stick to the pale image we had gone for on the cover.
After deciding the first idea was to plain, I decided on taking the logo and having it behind everything, having the opacity right down so it can't be seen to clear.
From there I continued to mess about with some of the design, bringing in boarders and filling in gaps.
We decided to try a different approach and going wild with some colour,
This was the only attempt we went for, cause as soon as we done it, we thought it was the wrong path to go down.
Besides the designs, it was a pleasure doing a collaboration with James,
Felt we worked well together and would happily do it again some time in the future.
