For a brief I am designing a set of 9 vinyl's, each being a collection of songs from a number of selected bands.
The idea I have came up with so far is a collage design, cause it has been something I have wanted to look into trying, so this could be my possible chance of giving it a shot.
I have came across some existing collage designs for album covers;
The Cribs, looks as if they have scanned a image for a back ground, an added scanned cuts out over the top and made some sort of collage, can't fully make out the story behind the idea.
Most recently released is the Beady Eyes single The Roller,
The design is like a old school newspaper, combined with a collage of images.
Using a limited colour pallet of black, red and a news paper stock colour.
The Beatles Anthology have numerous collage designs,
Starting here, with the collage filling up of scanned photographs of the band.
Either posing photographs or live on stage images.
Also they have a album, where the album cover is made up of a collage of their existing album covers. Combing them all in to a neat and simple collage.
Ones again a set of photographs combined with magazine cut outs.
And it does stop at the album covers, it can also be used for sleeves in the vinyls, or on the vinyl its self, expanding the collage design across more courts than just the cover.
One of my favourite bands Death Cab For Cutie, released this album,
and the cover was just a pattern collage of different patterns and colours, but it makes a very appealing design,
Maybe I could do something like this, defeating the obvious.
I am not to sure who released this album, but I like how it was a number of images used to make one large image, and a good mix of colour.
With the combined image being bright it makes the design stand out.
When I came across this I really like it,
the use of photography, really sharp photography, then editing of the images.
I will have a post based on these designs soon.
